Education

At Rainbow Turtle, we are committed to using education as a means of raising awareness of fair trade and the issues surrounding it. Knowledge is power as they say and we believe the more informed we are about the world around us, the more positive an impact we can have.

For many years now we have worked with schools, businesses, faith groups and other organisations to help educate local people. To find out what services we offer (such as Talks, Tuck Shops etc) click on the links above, or follow the pages in our menu at the top.

Talks

Our Education Officer is happy to visit your school, church or other groups to provide a talk on Fair Trade, Global Citizenship, and other local and global issues (which can be tailored to your class’s topics). We can also help with other issues around Fair Trade, such as establishing Fair Trade committees, including issues of Fair Trade in your curriculum, and working towards Fairtrade status for your school. We charge a small fee for these services, which covers costs and goes towards the work of our Rainbow Turtle charity. Please contact Gemma, our Education Officer, by visiting our contact page.

Fairtrade, Fair Trade and fair trade

You may have noticed all three of the above appearing on the site and in our literature. Why do we sometimes use capitals? Why is it sometimes one word and not two? We explain all in our What Is Fair Trade section.

Resources

These pages offer starting points for further exploration, ideas and activities. Whether you’re looking for lesson plans, ideas for fund-raising activities or just want to learn more about the issues that surround fair trade – the links included should help point you in the right direction. We’ve given a brief explanation of what each organisation does, to help you find the ones most relevant to you.

We’ve split these pages into two. Simply follow the links below:

Useful Organisations – this page gives details of local, national and international organisations that offer resources, such as lesson plans and activities designed to get people thinking, talking and working on the issues they address. This is a great way of introducing and developing topics such as Fair Trade and Global Citizenship to you, your students, your congregation…whoever you are involved with. We’ve looked through the pages ourselves and given you quick links to the key areas, to make planning and researching just that little bit easier.

Campaign Corner – here we point you in the direction of current and previous campaigns – this can help to give you ideas for planning your own projects. It will also help keep you informed of what’s going on at the moment and what you and those around you can get involved with. We’ll also give you details of how you can support campaigns, either online or by coming into our shop, where we will soon have a Campaign Corner too.

If you’d like to get in touch with us regarding anything education or resources based, we’d love to hear from you. Please fill out the form on our Education Contact page.
