How did RAINBOW TURTLE start?

Rainbow Turtle was set up in Paisley in 2002 by a group of friends concerned with the promotion and development of fair trade.  its objective is to raise public awareness of fair trade and encourage more people to buy fairly traded products.

What does RAINBOW TURTLE do?

Rainbow Turtle comprises two distinct but related areas of activity

THE CHARITY works in several ways to enhance the profile of fair trade

campaigning

educating by giving talks to various groups and organisations

organising special events and fundraising events

taking part in FAIRTRADE FORTNIGHT each year

working with various groups to lobby both local and national politicians with a view to achieving change in the system of world trade

directly supporting some producers in developing countries by giving financial assistance towards the purchase of raw materials and equipment, and by providing markets for the goods they produce through the retails outlets in Paisley and Linlithgow

THE TRADING COMPANY promotes fair trade in its shops in Paisley and Linlithgow

The shops are professionally managed but rely on and benefit greatly from the support of its volunteers.

The shops stock a deverse range of good including foodstuffs, wine, clothing, jewellery, crafts, cards, stationery, gifts and leisure items

The trading company is also involved in a number of other related activities:

providing organisations with stalls on a sale or return basis

supplying schools in Renfrewshire, West Lothian, East Renfrewshire and Falkirk with fairly traded foodstuffs and crafts for tuck shops, staff rooms, coffee mornings and other special events

supplying offices and other places of work with fairtrade beverages and snacks for staff
